NextImg:Is ‘Barbie’ Streaming on Netflix, Max, or Amazon Prime Video?

It’s almost time for director Greta Gerwig‘s highly-anticipated (and extremely star-studded) Barbie movie to hit theaters. Fortunately, we have you covered on all the ways you can watch this new live-action comedy!

Starring Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken, the film follows the duo as they embark on a “journey of self-discovery” after being banned from the utopian-like Barbie Land. The film also stars a slew of iconic actors including America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Michael Cera and Nicola Coughlan.

So where can you watch Barbie? Is it on Netflix? What about Max?

Here’s everything we know about the upcoming movie:

As of now, the only way to watch Barbie is to head out to a movie theater when it releases on Friday, July 21. You can find a local showing on Fandango. Otherwise, you’ll just have to wait for it to become available to rent or purchase on digital platforms like Amazon, Vudu, YouTube and Apple or become available to stream on Max. Read on for more information.

Unfortunately, there is no digital release date for Barbie… yet. Evil Dead Rise, another recent Warner Bros. Pictures film, came to digital platforms like Amazon Prime Video about 18 days after its theatrical release. If Barbie follows the same pattern, you might be able to rent or purchase it by Aug. 8, 2023.

But if Gerwig’s film sticks to the 45-day standard that most movies follow, it might not be available on digital until early September 2023.

Since Barbie is being distributed by Warner Bros., it will, indeed, join Max (formerly known as HBO Max). However, unlike the past when the company would drop their movies on the streaming platform the same day they were released in theaters, we are going to have to wait at least 45 days before we can watch from the comfort of our living rooms.

While there is no official streaming release date yet, Evil Dead Rise was released in theaters on April 21 and didn’t make its way to Max until June 23 — just over two months after it debuted. If Barbie follows the same trajectory, it’s possible we won’t be able to stream it until late September 2023.

No, Barbie is not coming to Netflix — and it likely won’t be there any time soon, seeing as it is going to stream on Max. In the meantime, you’ll just have to head out to a theater or wait for it to become available on streaming and VOD.
