If you’re in the mood to watch something scary, Shudder has you covered with a brand-new horror movie coming to theaters this weekend: Azrael. ‘Tis the season, after all!
Starring Samara Weaving—a new favorite scream queen after her celebrated 2019 horror flick, Ready or Not—Azrael is directed by E.L. Katz, with a screenplay by Simon Barrett. It’s an action-horror movie featuring Weaving as a young woman on the run from an angry mob, who wants to sacrifice her to an evil entity. Not today, Satan!
Also starring Vic Carmen Sonne and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Azrael first premiered at South by Southwest Film Festival in March, to mostly positive reviews. Horror fans will be delighted to see Weaving back on screen, and won’t want to miss it.

For now, Azrael will only available to watch in a movie theater, when it opens in the U.S. on Friday, September 27. You can find a showing near you via Fandango. Azrael is not yet available to watch online or on streaming.
Azrael is not streaming on Netflix or Max, and likely will not be on Netflix or Max any time soon, due to the fact that the film is an IFC Films and Shudder release, and will stream on the Shudder streaming platform, instead. If you want to watch Azrael at home, you’ll have to wait for the film to be available to buy or rent on digital platforms, or wait for it to stream on Shudder, the horror-themed streaming service.
Azrael is not yet streaming on Shudder. Right now, the movie is only in theaters. We do expect to see Azrael streaming on Shudder soon, but the Azrael Shudder release date has not yet been announced. Another recent Shudder original, In a Violent Nature, came to Shudder about four months after opening in theaters. If Azrael follows the same pattern, it might come to Shudder around January 2025.
But we expect Azrael on Shudder sooner than that; by the end of the year, or possibly even within the next few weeks, to capitalize on spooky season.
That all said, this is all speculation. If you want to watch Azrael movie right away, you can catch the movie in theaters starting tomorrow.
