Another week, another Thursday spent wondering when 9-1-1 is returning with new episodes on ABC.

It’s been two full months since the hit first-responder drama went on hiatus with Season 8, Episode 8, “Wannabes,” and as more and more fan-favorite network TV shows return from their winter breaks, 9-1-1 fans can’t help but wonder when they’ll be reunited with the 118.

So far this year, Brilliant Minds aired its eventful Season 1 finale on NBCWill TrentHigh Potentialand The Rookie returned to ABC. Abbott Elementary finally aired its highly-anticipated It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia crossover episode! And The Bachelor Season 19 is set to premiere on ABC next Monday, January 27. So where oh where is 9-1-1‘s 2025 premiere date?!

Curious if 9-1-1 is on tonight, January 23? Wondering when 9-1-1 returns with new episodes in 2025? Or want to hear what co-creator and showrunner Tim Minear has to tease about the second half of 9-1-1 Season 8? We’ve got you covered. Read on for everything to know about 9-1-1‘s highly-anticipated return date.

Sadly, there’s no new episode of 9-1-1 airing tonight, January 23, on ABC. Instead, a new episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is premiering on the network at 8:00 p.m. ET.

After its midseason finale aired on November 21, 9-1-1 went on hiatus for several months. The series will return with new episodes on Thursday, March 6, 2025.

When the series returns in March, 9-1-1 Season 8, Episode 9 will premiere on Thursday, March 6, 2025 in its typical time slot. Tune in to ABC at 8:00 p.m. ET and stick around for the return of fellow Ryan Murphy show Doctor Odyssey.

Following the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles, a number of productions temporarily shut down, including all of 20th Television’s LA-based series. Per Deadline, however, Grey’s Anatomy, Doctor Odyssey, and 9-1-1 — all of which will film indoors — will resume production on Tuesday January 14.

On January 15, the official 9-1-1 Instagram account also released a statement about the wildfires, saying, “9-1-1 is honored to tell stories about the courage of real-life first responders. We thank them for their bravery fighting the LA wildfires and are proud to support their efforts through Disney’s %15 million donation for immediate response and rebuilding efforts, which includes support of the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, among other organizations.”

While 9-1-1‘s Season 8, Episode 8 didn’t leave fans with any life-threatening cliffhangers to stress over, the premiere for Season 8, Episode 9 sure did! When the series returns, we’re in for a hostage situation, a serial killer, and a potential Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) kidnapping. “[Maddie’s] pregnancy story will factor in not insignificantly in the first two episodes when we come back,” co-creator and showrunner Tim Minear told Decider in an interview ahead of the hiatus. During a recent interview on I’ve Never Said This Before With Tommy DiDario, Jennifer Love Hewitt teased her character’s upcoming Season 8 arc as well, saying, “The craziest thing I’ve ever done on 9-1-1. The audience is not ready. I was not ready.” Hewitt even revealed she lost her voice after filming and had no idea the “wild” and “fun” storyline was coming. We’re not stressed at all!

In terms of teases for the remainder of the season, here’s what else Minear had to say about the second half of Season 8. When we left Eddie (Ryan Guzman) in the midseason finale, he was considering a move to Texas to be closer to his son Christopher (Gavin McHugh), so his life will still be “in flux” when the show returns. Though fans may have a hard time imagining one of 9-1-1‘s core character relocating long-term, Minear assured Decider that “Eddie is dead serious about doing whatever he has to do to repair that relationship, so if that means moving to Texas, maybe that’s what he has to do.” So it kind of sounds like he may actually be leaving town? At least temporarily.

If Eddie does make the move, Minear said fans expect a major spiral from his BFF Buck (Oliver Stark), who was already going through it post-breakup. “Buck is going to be spinning like a top by the time we come back. [He’s] not wanting to be a bad friend, and not wanting to be selfish. There’s just no way he’s not going to spiral about this,” the showrunner explained, noting that Buck will eventually find a short-lived distraction. “He’s going to have to find something to latch onto to keep from completely spinning out of control. And he will find that. He will find that when we come back. And we’ll see about that and how long that lasts — these relationships don’t tend to last all that long.”

As for other personal storylines, Minear said, “The Bobby and Athena building a new house story, we’ll hit that pretty hard in Episode 11… We’ll also get to see Buck dealing with his abandonment issues. And then Episode 10 is just going to be thrilling. It’s going to be a thriller. And by the end of Episode 10, everybody’s life is changed.”

When asked about his goal for the back half of Season 8, Minear replied, “To blow it all the hell apart.” So again, we’re not stressed at all. WE’RE FINE.
