Mark Consuelos is in the doghouse. On this morning’s episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, the actor infuriated his wife/co-host Kelly Ripa when he accused her of “lying” about his cell phone volume habits.
Ripa sparked the convo with a scenario: she receives an Instagram video from her friend, opens it, the volume is high, she doesn’t know how to turn it off and Consuelos gets mad. However, the longtime host claimed that when her husband does the same thing, it’s “perfectly fine and it lasts forever” — leaving him to contradict her story.
“What you’re experiencing now is revisionist history,” he said. “If you were to ask the rest of our family, they would agree with me. You let it play over and over and we’re all eyeballing each other like, ‘When is she gonna turn it down?’”
Ripa slowly became more and more frustrated with Consuelos as he called her habit “loud and obnoxious” and mansplained how to use the volume buttons on her phone. Meanwhile, she kept reiterating that it only happens when she doesn’t know she’s opening up a video.
“If it has video and it’s moving, it has volume on it. And as our son says, you’re capping. Full cap. That means you’re lying. Cap. Cap,” Consuelos antagonized, to which Ripa replied, “You’re capping! That’s not even the right use of the word cap. This is, I believe, gaslighting. I’m being gaslit.”
The All My Children alum only dug himself in deeper when he joked about being able to “correct this stuff in real time” now that he’s the permanent co-host. While filming Riverdale in Vancouver, he recalled getting ready for work when he would hear a “bevy of complaints” about himself on Live — most of which he claimed were untrue.
“None of what you just said is true,” Ripa fired back. “And you can correct me in real time — except that you have to correct things that are actually wrong, not things that you wish are wrong.”
The married couple then decided to “interrogate” their three children to come to a conclusion, while executive producer Michael Gelman joked about “getting the therapist back” on the show.
“Let’s lock them up and put them in a lie detector. And attach his to his privates,” Ripa said, referring to her husband, before suggesting a more painful method. “A cattle prod. We’ll put it right there, attach it to his badingas, and let’s see him tell the truth.”
