Indonesia’s Mount Lewotobi, located on Flores Island in East Nusa Tenggara province, erupted eight times on Thursday, November 7, 2024, spewing ash columns up to 26,250 feet high. The government evacuated over 5,800 residents from nearby villages after an earlier eruption on Sunday that killed nine and damaged more than 2,000 homes.

With the highest alert status in place, officials are racing to relocate residents and secure adequate water supplies for evacuees amid heightened seismic activity on Indonesia’s “Ring of Fire.”
