NextImg:I’m a bride who lost a best friend over my ‘no plus-ones’ rule — people say I’m insane

Her wedded bliss was ruined by a friendship diss.

A bride said bye-bye to a friend of nearly a decade after barring the woman from bringing her new boyfriend as a plus-one to her 96-person wedding ceremony.

And social media savages are throwing shade, rather than rice, at the no-nonsense newlywed.

“Lost a 7+ year friendship over not inviting a [boyfriend] I never met,” said Cora Breilein, 28, a lifestyle and beauty influencer from California, in the closed-captions of her viral TikTok rant. The trending tell-all has garnered over 5 million views.

The confession was plastered atop a screenshot of the “Frequently Asked Questions” page of her wedding website.

The site stated that she and then-hubby-to-be, Jared — with whom Breilein tied the knot in Glen Ellen, Calif., on April 22 — would not be hosting the romantic partners of their guests if the additional person’s name wasn’t already included on the Save the Date card or the formal invitation.

“Our wedding wedding felt so special and intimate knowing everyone there,” continued Breilein in the on-screen text of her TikTok clip. “It’s worth weeding people that aren’t interested in being part of your life, out.”

But not everyone agreed with her weeding words of wisdom.

“Pure INSANITY if you can’t bring your partner to a wedding if you’re not married,” barked one social media watchdog. (In a subsequent post, Breilein vowed to restrict certain comments on her viral video for the sake of her own mental health).

Recent bride Cora Breilein went viral on TikTok after revealing that she lost a friend of more than 7 years by refusing to invite the woman’s new boyfriend to her wedding.

Breilein and husband Jared only extended plus-one invitations to partners of their guests who they'd previously met.

Online, Breilein shared her wedding day guidelines, which included a note about plus-one guests.

The outraged viewer continued, “So my partner of 4 years wouldn’t be welcome? Wouldn’t even attend.”

Breilein responded directly to the virtual vitriol, explaining that she and Jared did allow guests to bring a boyfriend, girlfriend or fiancé to their nuptials, provided that they had already met the plus-one prior to their big day.

“It [was] just about [inviting] people who will be in our lives long-term,” she said in a follow-up clip to her original post. “If I never met their boyfriend or their girlfriend, I did not feel comfortable inviting them.”

Breilein and Jared tied the knot in April.

In her trending TikTok post, Breilein explained that she and Jared were only willing to host guests who’d be actively involved in their lives for years to come.

She went on to note that the frequently asked questions on her wedding website — which also included limitations on guest attire, a no-cell phones policy, a no uninvited kids allowed clause and a threat to refuse admission to late comers — weren’t “rules,” but rather “guidelines” that were in alignment with “basic wedding etiquette.”

However, some of her guidelines echoed the firm laws upheld by another married couple, who too, caught social media hellfire over their harsh wedding rules in April 2022.

But Breilein insisted that each of her guidelines were necessary when it came to having the fete of her dreams.

“The FAQs were there because we had an intentionally small wedding, and we wanted to know every single person there,” she said. “But a lot of people have a ‘No ring, no invite’ rule, and we were not that strict about it.”

Despite ticking off TikTok, Breilein, who’s presumably deleted some of the more vicious comments about her wedding do’s and don’t’s, said her controversial restrictions helped her special day go off without a hitch.

“I know my wedding day, I know it was a success,” she said. “I had a lot of fun, my fiancé had a lot of fun, our friends and family had a lot of fun…and that’s all that matters.”

Breilein does not seem to regret her firm wedding day guidelines.

Breilein said that her big day was a success despite the digital flak that came afterwards.

And luckily, a handful of her social media followers agreed.

“Let’s not forget [a plus-one] costs money… I’d be strict too if I didn’t know them,” chimed one of Breilein’s supporters.

“BEING INVITED TO SOMEONES WEDDING IS A PRIVILEGE. Follow their rules on THEIR day,” chanted another.

“I’ve lost life long friends over not inviting their boyfriend of a month that I’ve never met. True colors come out,” said a recent bride.

To that, Breilein replied, “It’s honestly sad, but a good way to eliminate friendships that are on the outs. That was how I viewed it.”
