The buzzy new docuseries of the week is Netflix’s Bad Surgeon: Love Under the Knife. The three-episode odyssey centers on the bizarre story of Paolo Macchiarini, a renowned “super surgeon” who was globally lauded for creating the world’s first plastic organs. But truth is often stranger than fiction. After his patients kept dying, Macchiarini was accused of being a fraud as the documentary follows the unrelenting fight to bring the surgeon to justice.
If you already binged the entire series — you can watch all three episodes in about two and a half hours — you might be interested in the upcoming second season of Peacock’s exceptional true crime drama anthology series Dr. Death, which is based on the shocking true story of Macchiarini.
Starring Edgar Ramírez and Mandy Moore, the eight-episode show explores the personal and professional relationship between Macchiarini (Ramírez) and investigative journalist Benita Alexander (Moore). Per Peacock, ” As [Alexander] learns how far Paolo will go to protect his secrets, a group of doctors halfway across the world make shocking discoveries of their own that call everything about Paolo into question.” Also starring Luke Kirby, Ashley Madekwe, and Gustaf Hammarsten, a companion documentary, Dr. Death: Cutthroat Conman, will also debut on Peacock.
We’ve included the Dr. Death Season 2 release date as well as a complete Paolo Macchiarini documentary streaming guide below.
Dr. Death Season 2 and the companion documentary Dr. Death: Cutthroat Conman premiere Thursday, December 21 on Peacock.
