NextImg:I mistook superglue for my eye drops and fused my eyes shut

A woman on TikTok has shared how she ended up in the ER after mistakenly using super glue instead of her eye drops.

The 22-year-old, Lyd, shared a photo montage to the platform that chronicled everything from the immediate aftermath to her painful recovery.

The influencer shared the clip, which now has five million views and over 500,000 comments, with the caption: “Read bottles before using!”

The first image in the slideshow showed Lyd’s eye glued shut with the caption: “Hospital after mistaking my superglue bottle for my eye drops and gluing my eye shut.”

She then shared an image of her lying in a hospital bed being treated by doctors and nurses who tried various methods to open her eye.

“They had me apply an ointment that breaks down and dissolves the glue,” she wrote over a clip of her rubbing cream over her eye.

“It didn’t work so they started picking at the glue trying to separate my eye,” she added next.

After that didn’t work either, she said, “They took me to a private room and used a metal tool to pry it open and finally got it to open.”

Lyd then showed images of her eye afterwards and the whites of her eyes were red and yellow.

“I’m in so much pain,” she concluded.

She added later in the comments that her vision is “not the best” but she’d been prescribed antibiotic eye drops to help treat it.

The woman’s followers flooded the comments with sympathy and support for her, but naturally many were left wondering how this mix-up happened in the first place.

“Ouch! I feel the pain through the screen,” one person wrote.

“Looks so awful, I hope you’re feeling better,” remarked another.

Lyd told her viewers that she remains in "so much pain."

“Why is the super glue next to/near where your eye drops are? That’s the real question,” asked someone else.

And then this person agreed, saying: “How did you manage that? Did you not read the bottle?”

Then this person said: “Former ophthalmic tech here! This happens WAY more often than you’d think.”

Lyd then explained how the mistake happened, saying she woke up in the middle of the night to use her eyedrops and accidentally reached for the wrong bottle.
