There’s no crying in baseball.
An anonymous Redditor has taken to the “Am I the A—hole” forum to ask if he was a jerk for leaving his wife behind to go to a baseball game after she took too long to get ready.
He began the post Tuesday by explaining that they had been looking forward to the game, and he had allotted about 45 minutes to get there.
He said he told his wife to be ready at 6 p.m.
“Well, my wife is an avid gamer, so she was engrossed in her latest video game when the clock struck 5:45 PM,” the Redditor wrote. “She has struggled to plan in the past, and I get tired of reminding her that she needs to budget time to get ready.”
“It’s as if she has no concept of time at all, similar to a young child,” the user continued. “Well, I was ready to go by 6 PM, and she was in the bathroom. I saw this as an opportunity to teach her personal responsibility, so I simply left the house without saying a word, got in the car, and started driving to the game.”
He revealed in the post that once his wife had found out what he had done, she phoned him “furious.”
She reportedly said it was “completely unacceptable” for him to leave without her, and she had no way to get to the game.
He claims he reminded her of the departure time and said he was tired of having to wait for her.
“Frankly, I think it’s completely insane that a grown woman is unable to budget her time, and I’m starting to suspect that she is doing this on purpose because she’s a narcissist who expects me to accommodate her,” the poster typed, noting that she is “not a dumb woman” and has a science degree.
The Redditor said when he went home, there was a note on the door directing him to sleep on the couch.
“I can’t believe she wants to be this much of a pill,” he concluded. “If I had waited for her, I would have missed the first pitch. I made my expectations clear, and she couldn’t be bothered to meet them. I feel like she should be apologizing to me. AITA?”
In the comments section of the post, many seemed to think that he was, in fact, the a—hole.
“Yta,” one person wrote. “You must be a newlywed because no sane husband should ever think it’s a good idea to ‘teach their wife a lesson.'”
“YTA for leaving without saying anything,” another agreed. “You were being petty by not even letting her know that you were leaving. I would have voted the other way had you told her that you were leaving.”
Others even suggested the wife may have undiagnosed ADHD — with a symptom being a problem with time management, according to the American Psychiatric Association.
“Bet you she just has ADHD or something and this clown pulls out the Narcissist card because it fits his agenda of no respect for this woman,” a Redditor surmised.
“My ADHD got diagnosed when I was 39,” another chimed in. “I always had trouble being on time, timeblindness is a thing. It got better with my diagnosis as I was able to find ways to deal with it… alarms and stuff. If my husband would have treated me like this I would have gone.”
This isn’t the first time a Redditor has come under fire for revealing they left their wife behind.
Earlier this month, an anonymous user said he boarded a flight alone after his wife took too long to order coffee at the airport.
“She told me I needed to tell them to let me off the plane to be with her and I said ‘No.’ It is not fair to do this again…I said I told you we didn’t have time but you decided to go anyways,” the man wrote.
