What lies beneath?

One never knows what could be lurking underneath your house. An Arkansas man perplexed the internet masses after sharing a video of a mystery critter poking its nose up through a hole in his floorboards.

Footage of the wildlife peepshow has amassed over 6.8 million views on TikTok as viewers try to guess the creature’s identity.

“Getting really nosey about our bedroom,” Robert Bishop, a music director at KUAF Radio, quipped in the caption to the clip. An avid wildlife enthusiast, the TikTokker frequently shares videos of the menagerie of critters that visit his Lafayetteville home, including opossums, bats and more.

However, he couldn’t decipher the identity of his latest visitor, which he spotted nosing about a mysterious hole leading to his crawlspace.

“We have no idea where the hole came from,” Bishop told News 5. “I honestly don’t remember it being there when we moved in because I would have noticed.”

In the accompanying footage, the subterranean squatter can be seen nosing at the peephole while snuffling noisily as the Arkansan tries to guess the identity.

“What kind of nose is that?” Bishop inquires in the clip, which he also posted to Instagram.

Baffled, Bishop finally implored the public to put their nose to the ground and try to deduce which creature the shnoz belonged to.

“Think it’s a badger,” guessed one armchair animal expert, while another wrote, “Thats a bear.”

Some even guessed that the creature was far more common. “Tell me why I thought it was a dog,” said one.

As it turns out, the underground sensation is actually raccoon.

Bishop had cracked the caper by placing food in the crawl space alongside a camera, whereupon the nocturnal animal finally revealed itself, as seen in a followup video.

“Got some eyes on the little guy!” Bishop captioned the clip, which shows the trash panda pillaging a dish of fruit he left out for it.
