Secret torture chamber or innocent kids’ hideout?
A woman sent shivers down the internet’s collective spine after uploading a video of a creepy hidden room behind her basement cupboard — which had children’s handprints on the walls and locked from the inside.
A video of the mysterious space has amassed 6.7 million views and sparked a raging debate over the room’s purpose.
“Found a room hidden in my house,” wrote user @bigbrah1 in the caption of the clip of the room, which was reportedly located in her basement bathroom.
Accompanying footage shows the user opening the door to a cupboard to reveal a bizarre second door where the back of the makeup compartment would normally be.
She opens this door, unveiling a surprisingly sprawling space whose interior is decorated with child’s drawings, foot and handprint murals, and the words “Love Shack” emblazoned in colorful lettering on the wall. There was also a piece of paper scrawled with the names “Rebecca, Kelly and Sarah.”
As @bigbrah1 demonstrates, the room can be locked from the inside.
In a follow-up clip, @bigbrah1 theorizes that the room, which is accessed by standing on the toilet, is definitely made for children as she can’t stand up in it.
The homeowner has since removed the pictures and painted it over to use for storage, as shown in the clip.
The mystery chamber had imaginations running wild on TikTok with one aghast gawker exclaiming, “Absolute weirdest vibes … love shack? The feet?”
“It was either a fun little hideout, or the creepiest thing ever,” wrote another, while a third said, “love shack makes me feel uncomfortable, what happened in there.”
A fourth advised, “Tell the police like just in case it’s linked to something……..”
Other viewers thought the room was for far less nefarious purposes, however. “
“Y’all this is so obviously just a girly lil hangout area,” posited one. “Me and my bsf have the ‘babe cave’ at my family’s cabin. This seems like the same vibe.”
Another wrote, “That’s like 90s middle school girl hang out fo sho.”
Meanwhile, others theorized that the “Love Shack” lettering referred to the hit song by the B-52s, which was popular when the kiddie cave was created.
“The tween girls who used that space as a hang out for sleepovers and doodling probably had no idea a bunch of adults on TikTok would be debating the size of their hands and feet, why one of them liked the song Love Shack by the B52s, or why the paint doesn’t go all the way down the wall,” joked one wit, dismissing the hysteria.
Finding secret rooms in one’s house is not as uncommon as some might think — at least according to TikTok.
In July, a UK TikTokker was shocked after finding a hidden trapdoor leading to secret rooms underneath the floorboards of her parents’ 200-year-old farmhouse.
