After beating Canada 4-1 in a New Year’s Eve showdown, Team USA’s U20 hockey team is quarterfinal bound at the 2025 World Junior Championship.

The tournament, played annually, features the ten highest ranked under-20 national hockey teams in the world. Team USA are the defending champions, having won gold just over a year ago; 10 players from that team are back again this year, including New York Rangers prospects Drew Fortescue and Gabe Perreault.

With three wins and one overtime loss in the first round, Team USA won Group A, which also included hockey powerhouses Canada and Finland.

Today, they’ll face Switzerland (1-3 in group play) in a do-or-die game that’ll see them advance to the semifinals with a win or face an early exit from the tournament. Here’s everything you need to know to tune in.

Team USA takes on Switzerland in the World Juniors quarterfinals today, January 2, at 2:30 p.m. ET.

All World Juniors games, including USA vs. Switzerland, air this afternoon on NHL Network.

If you don’t have cable and want to watch the World Juniors, you’ll need a live TV streaming service. Luckily, two different live TV services that carry NHL Network have free trials of varying lengths.

fuboTV offers a seven-day free trial period, which will take you through the end of the 2025 WJC, but you’ll have to make sure to subscribe to the Elite plan, which costs $89.99/month after the trial period.

DIRECTV Stream is one of our favorites, and the five-day free trial will also cover the rest of the tournament. The Ultimate package includes NHL Network, and will cost $109.99/month after the five-day period is up.

While Sling TV doesn’t offer a free trial, it’s among the most affordable live TV services, especially with a 50% off your first month promo.

To watch NHL Network, you’ll have to subscribe to Sling Blue + Sports Extra. Sling Blue costs $25.50 in your first month + $11 for the sports extra bundle.

For the 19th time in tournament history, Canada is the World Juniors’ host country. Ottawa is the host city.
