It’s the unofficial start to the New York Giants’ 100th NFL season.
Tonight, the G-men will open their preseason against the Detroit Lions at home.
Following two spirited and intense joint training sessions between the two teams, it’s expected that a significant number of the Giants starters won’t play tonight, per ESPN’s Jordan Raanan. That includes rookie WR Malik Nabers and starting QB Daniel Jones, who is back after missing a significant part of last season with a torn ACL.
Jones is still hoping for some preseason action, though, to test his surgically repaired ACL.
There are two more preseason matchups for the Giants, including one against their stadium-mates, the New York Jets.
Below, check out everything you need to know to tune into the match, from start time and channel to how to watch for free.
Kickoff at the Giants vs. Lions game is set for 7:00 p.m. ET today, August 8.
The Giants preseason game against the Lions is airing on FOX in the New York metro area.
The best way to stream the Giants game for free if you don’t have cable is with a live TV streaming service free trial. Our favorite is DIRECTV Stream, which offers a five-day free trial for new subscribers. When the trial is over, you’ll pay $79.99/month for over 90 live channels.
With Sling TV, you won’t get any days for free, but you’ll save a bunch on a whole month of streaming, rather than just five days free. Sling TV’s Blue plan includes FOX, and right now, you can get your first month for 50% off. Instead of $45, you’ll pay $22.50.
In addition to today’s matchup against the Lions, the Giants will play two preseason games.
The Giants and Lions are playing tonight’s preseason game at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ.
Earlier this week, the New York Giants and Detroit Lions held two joint practices this past Monday and Tuesday, and things got fiery fast between the two teams.
A series of fights, including both QB Jones and rookie Nabers, broke out across the two days of practice, with Nabers seen throwing punches with a Lions rookie. In the aftermath, both teams were fined $200,00 by the NFL for violating a memo sent around to all teams that started, “fighting and unprofessional conduct at joint practices would not be tolerated” during joint practices.
