If you miss spending Sunday nights with the Roy family, then you definitely want to watch Mountainhead, the new HBO original movie from Succession creator Jesse Armstrong that premieres this weekend.
Written and directed by Armstrong in his feature directorial debut, Mountainhead is a biting, brutal satire of the men who rule the world: Billionaires. Because the subject deals with generative AI, political unrest, and tech moguls, Armstrong rushed the production in the hopes of getting the film out before the social commentary was no longer relevant to the present day. To that end, the movie was green lit, cast, shot, and edited in the span of just a few months.
Steve Carell, Jason Schwartzman, Cory Michael Smith, and Ramy Youssef star as four BFFs who call themselves the “Brewsters,” all of whom have achieved great success in their fields. All but one of the bros—Schwartzman character, nicknamed “Souper,” short for “Soup Kitchen,”—are billionaires. And while the world around them falls apart, the Brewsters get together for a boys’ weekend, to discuss, among other things, taking over the world.
This dark comedy is as hilarious as it is terrifying, and feels like an all-too-real depiction of the men who are completely detached from reality, and yet have the power to take over our world with a phone call. You don’t want to miss it, so here’s what to know about where to watch the Mountainhead movie, including the Mountainhead release time streaming on HBO Max.

The Mountainhead movie will begin streaming on HBO Max at the same time that the movie premieres on HBO, on Saturday, May 31 at 8 p.m. Eastern Time / 8 p.m Pacific Time. Starting at 8 p.m. on May 31, Max subscribers will be able to stream the movie on demand, any time.
Mountainhead takes place over a single weekend, when four tech bro friends—all but one of whom are billionaires—gather for a boys’ trip, while the world around them devolves in war, political unrest, and chaos. Social media CEO Venis (Cory Michael Smith) is getting blamed for the political unrest, thanks to his platform’s use of hyperrealistic, deep fake AI images, which is prompting countries to go to war over fake images. Venis’s former partner, Jeff (Ramy Youssef) invented a program that can weed out the fake images from the real, and Venn is desperate to buy. But he’ll do anything not to make a bad deal.
The Mountainhead cast stars Steve Carell (The Office), Jason Schwartzman (Rushmore, Asteroid City), Cory Michael Smith (May December, Saturday Night), and Ramy Youssef (Ramy, Poor Things) as the four best friends and tech moguls who gather for a boys’ weekend. Hadley Robinson, Andy Daly, Daniel Oreskes, Ali Kinkade, and David W. Thompson also appear in supporting roles.
