Gonzaga versus Georgia will be a true “Bulldog eat Bulldog” matchup.
On Thursday, March 20, the No. 8 Gonzaga Bulldogs will take on the No. 9 Georgia Bulldogs in the NCAA Men’s Basketball first round at Wichita, KS’ Intrust Bank Arena. While these squads sound evenly matched on paper, they have wildly different pedigrees.
Mark Few’s 25-8 Gonzaga — led by forward Graham Ike and guard Ryan Nembhard — have nine consecutive sweet sixteen berths under their belt and have qualified for every tourney since 1999. Lest we forget, they also took home the National Championship in 2017 and 2021.
Meanwhile, Mike White’s 20-12 Georgia Bulldogs, are in their first big dance since 2015. To even get this far, star forward Asa Newell and co. had to rally to tally four consecutive wins to close out the regular season.
Still, “…despite this matchup being an 8 vs 9 seed, it feels as if Georgia is quite the underdog,” Sports Illustrated claimed.
