The Olympic swimming competition came to a close yesterday, but we’re not done in the pool quite yet — artistic swimming begins today!
Formerly known as synchronized swimming, artistic swimming returns to the summer games for the 11th Olympics in a row, but this year’s competition has a new look and a new scoring system.
For the first time, men were allowed to qualify for the team competition with a maximum of two per team; the expectation was that some men would participate, but none were named to any of the 10 participating countries’ 8-person teams.
The 2024 Olympics also brings the debut of the acrobatic stage of the team competition. Before this year, the team competition consisted of two stages, technical and free, but this year, the inclusion of acrobatics plays to Team USA’s airborne and platform strengths and may find them in the mix for a medal. Each stage is judged individually, but medals will be awarded to the teams with the three highest combined totals on August 7.
In the days following the team competition, a two-part duet competition will take place with all 10 qualified teams picking two swimmers to compete as a duet.
With less than a week to go in the Olympics, there are five days of artistic swimming to look forward to, and you can watch it all on Peacock or for free on DIRECTV Stream.
Monday, August 5
Tuesday, August 6
Wednesday, August 7
Friday, August 9
Saturday, August 10
If you want to watch the gymnastics event finals for free, consider signing up for live TV streaming services that offer free trials and carry E!. We recommend DIRECTV Stream, which comes with a five-day free trial.
The official streaming home of the 2024 Olympics is Peacock, the streaming service from NBCUniversal. This year, Peacock is broadcasting over 5,000 hours of live coverage, which includes all 329 medal events, every single event leading up to them, and the new, popular whip-around show Gold Zone.
Peacock costs $7.99/month with ads and $13.99/month without ads, and since the Olympics wrap up on August 11, you’ll only need one month to watch the entire 2024 Games.
Below, check out the 10 countries that qualified for Artistic Swimming in the order they’ll compete in during the technical routine event, alongside the theme for their performance.
