Bringing in former players to speak about what it meant to them to play for the franchise is a well-worn rite of spring offseason programs around the NFL.
Over the course of his tenure as the Giants’ head coach, Brian Daboll has invited popular and successful former players to share a few words of wisdom after organized team activity practices or once in a while during training camp.
Coming off his third and worst season with the Giants, Daboll thought long and hard about changes he might need to make to ensure a 3-14 campaign never again stained his and the Giants’ résumé. One of his ideas was to increase how often his current players heard from former players.
Thus far, those who showed up for the voluntary workout program or the rookie minicamp have heard from Hall of Famers Lawrence Taylor and Michael Strahan.
