It was a family affair when Ironheart star Anthony Ramos stopped by The View Friday.
Host Sunny Hostin got to reveal some shocking news: They’re related!
Hostin welcomed Ramos onto The View when he kicked off the interview by admitting he felt like he was sitting in the “hot seat.”
“You are not because you’re with family,” she said.
Hostin explained that she and Ramos learned they were related after going on the PBS series Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates Jr. “We are cousins and we are descendants of royalty as well,” she said. “So that was wonderful.”
“That’s why you’re both so good looking,” Alyssa Farah Griffin joked.
Ramos explained that they were descendants of Pelinor, an Indigenous king from the Canary Islands. The Hamilton star said they were “16 generations removed.”
Joy Behar called the news “fascinating,” adding, “I’m never going to be able to listen to her now.” Griffin, on the other hand, joked that the news “also tracks” for Hostin.
Hostin appeared on the PBS series in 2024. The episode revealed quite a bit about her ancestry, including that she is 7 percent Indigenous Puerto Rican and that she is the descendant of Spanish slaveowners.

She spoke about the experience soon after on The View, where she called out the online critics who sent her hate mail after her appearance on Finding Your Roots.
“At first, I was deeply disappointed,” Hostin said at the time about learning she descended from slaveowners. But she maintained that the revelation did not change her standpoint on reparations.“I still believe in reparations by the way, so y’all can stop texting me and emailing me and saying that I’m a white girl and that I don’t deserve reparations.”
“It’s too much, people,” she said.
But Hostin was excited to share her discovery about Ramos during that 2024 episode of The View. “I have a cousin too, Whoopi!” she said. “Anthony Ramos from Hamilton. Isn’t he cute?”
“He is my cousin and I reached out to him and it’s kinda cool because he was the youngest actor in the original Broadway play of Hamilton and he’s multi-talented,” she said. “I’ve interviewed him before, but I didn’t know we were cousins!
The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
