NextImg:How a one-eyed rescue cat from Idaho became 2023’s Cadbury Bunny

Ears one you don’t see every day.

Crash — an eight-year-old, one-eyed feline rescued in Idaho — has been named 2023’s Cadbury Bunny, just in time for Easter Sunday.

Besides appearing in a Cadbury commercial, Crash is to be inducted to the chocolate creme egg maker’s hall of fame, and will nip home with $5K for himself — and another $5K for a charity of his choice.

The can-do kitty’s rise to fame began quite by accident, literally — Crash was struck by a car where he lost not only his eye but broke one leg and jaw.

“As he began to heal at a local shelter, his quirky, outgoing personality made everyone quickly fall head over heels for him, leading Crash to become their resident shelter cat,” according to a release from the company. “Crash charms and impresses people as they visit the shelter, performing tricks like high five.”

Crash, the one eyed cat is Cadbury’s bunny of the year.

He was picked out of finalists including Ping the duck, Ande the chinchilla, and a sheep called Timmy. This is the fifth time Cadbury has celebrated the season with its Bunny Tryouts, where any animal can be a contender; this year, the company specifically sought out rescue pets.

Now, Crash’s owner, Maddie Corey is scratching with anticipation for her beloved pet.

“We are jumping with joy to hear Crash is the next Cadbury Bunny but not surprised as he is always the center of attention in any room. He’s been through so much over the past few years and we appreciate the love his friends, family and cat enthusiasts across the country have shown,” she said.

The one eyed rescue cat, who knows tricks, has won $5,000.

“We can’t wait to see Crash take center stage for this year’s Cadbury Clucking Bunny Commercial and share his story with the world.”

In a way of continuing to support animals, Cadbury has also donated $20K to the ASPCA this Spring to continue “raising awareness for pets in need and supporting the ASPCA’s mission of providing effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals.”

And in the brand’s own words, Crash is living proof why such actions are worthwhile.

“He reminds our community that every cat is worth saving.”
