


New year, new shows.
2024 is here, and it brings a wide range of new offerings on the small screen.
There are many big name stars in upcoming shows, including Hugh Grant, Kate Winslet, Jodie Foster, Sofia Vergara, Jon Hamm and Donald Glover.
From animated series to crime dramas to the first new season of “True Detective” in nearly five years, here are all the goods to look out for in 2024.
Starring and executive-produced by Hamm, this new animated comedy series is about Marvin Flute, a detective who finds himself return to Grimsburg, a town where everyone has a secret — and must deal with fellow detectives, his ex-wife (Erinn Hayes) and his unstable son (Rachel Dratch). Sam Richardson and Alan Tudyk co-star.
Where to watch: Jan. 7, 8 p.m. on Fox.
The anthology HBO drama returns for the first time since 2019. This season is set in Alaska, and stars Jodie Foster and Kali Reis. When eight men who operate a remote research station mysteriously vanish without a trace, Detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Reis) are on the case to plumb the mysteries beneath the eerie ice. “True Detective” creator Nic Pizzolatto is an executive producer, but this has new blood in the form of showrunner /creator Issa López.
Where to watch: Jan. 14, 9 p.m., on HBO and Max.
“The Affair’s” Ruth Wilson stars in this limited series about Lorna Brady, a woman from a fictional Irish town who wakes up one morning to find a corpse in her house — with no idea of who it is, how it got there or if she is responsible, since she’s been a long-time sleepwalker.
Where to watch: Jan. 21, 9 p.m. on Showtime (Jan. 19 on Paramount+).
Sofia Vergara stars as “cocaine queen” Griselda Blanco, a real-life female drug kingpin who headed one of the most lucrative cartels in history and helped turn Miami into a war zone in the 1980s. She also infamously had a penchant for killing — or ordering the deaths of — all of her husbands, which earned her the nickname “The Black Widow.” She also had the nickname “The Godmother.”
Where to watch: Jan. 25 on Netflix.
Starring Nicole Kidman and based on the 2016 novel “The Expatriates” by Janice Y. K. Lee, this series is set in 2014 Hong Kon, and follows three American women — Margaret (Kidman), Hilary (Sarayu Blue) and Mercy (Ji-young Yoo) — who cross paths after a sudden tragedy.
Where to watch: Jan. 26 on Prime Video.
Executive-produced by Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, the period drama is about the 100th Bomb Group of the US Army Air Forces during World War II. The star-studded cast includes “Elvis” star Austin Butler, “Saltburn” star Barry Keoghan and the new “Doctor Who,” Ncuti Gatwa.

The TV series reimagining of the 2005 Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie movie. Co-created by Donald Glover, who co-stars with Maya Erskine as married spies.

Justin Hartley (“This Is Us”) stars as lone-wolf survivalist Colter Shaw, who roams the country as a “reward seeker,” helping both private citizens and law enforcement solve various mysteries.
Where to watch: Feb. 11 after the Super Bowl on CBS.
Set in 1600s Japan, this period piece follows Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada) as he fights for his life when a mysterious ship is found marooned in a nearby village — led by English sailor John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis).
Where to watch. Feb. 27, 10 p.m. on FX and Hulu.
The miniseries, starring Kate Winslet and Hugh Grant — and helmed by showrunner Will Tracy (“The Menu”) — follows a year within the palace of a crumbling (fictional) authoritarian regime.
Where to watch: March 3 at 9 p.m. on HBO and Max.
Move over, “The Last of Us,” this is the latest popular video game to get the TV treatment. Developed by “Westworld” creators Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan, the series is set in post-apocalyptic America and stars Ella Purnell (“Yellowjackets,”) Walton Goggins and Kyle MacLauchlan.
