Zachery Ty Bryan is reportedly back in police custody after getting arrested for domestic violence once again. The Home Improvement star’s latest controversy mirrors that of his 2020 arrest for the same issue.

According to a TMZ report, police were called for a reported physical dispute between a male and a female at a Eugene, Oregon residence on Friday (July 28). When they arrived, Bryan was gone — but they later tracked him down and took him to jail, per the outlet.

The former child actor was reportedly arrested for felony assault in violation of the Abuse Prevention Act — which is when someone is accused of attacking a person who previously had a restraining order against them for domestic violence. As of now, Bryan reportedly remains in custody.

Back in 2020, a then-39-year-old Bryan was arrested after he assaulted his 27-year-old girlfriend, Johnnie Faye Cartwright. At first, he was charged with harassment, coercion, strangulation, interference with making a report and second counts of menacing and assault in the fourth degree, per Deadline. However, the charges were reduced to misdemeanor menacing and misdemeanor assault when he pled guilty in 2021.

As a result, the actor was forced to undergo three years of probation and participate in a batterer-intervention program.

While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter earlier this year, Bryan said the arrest “got so blown out of proportion” by the media.

“We didn’t even really get that physical,” he said. “We got really loud. We were screaming and because we were in a townhome that had [thin walls], everybody could hear… At the end of the day, [the police] throw a bunch of counts at you because they ultimately want you to plead to something.”

Regarding his two-count guilty plea, he added, “I could’ve fought it, but that’s more stress and drama. I got two misdemeanors and called it a day.”

Since the incident three years ago, Bryan and Cartwright — who share three children — have gotten engaged. Bryan also has four children from his previous marriage. It’s unclear whether the other party in the most recent incident was Cartwright.

Bryan is best known for playing Tim Allen‘s eldest son Brad Taylor in Home Improvement throughout the 1990s. In an interview with THR last month, Allen said, “I don’t know what’s going on with him,” regarding his former co-star’s string of legal woes.

“Zach is a great kid who has grown into a complex man. All you can do is step aside and let somebody go through their process,” he said. “At a certain point, he deviated from the guy I know to somebody who is reacting to situations that I had nothing to do with and can’t control.”

Allen added, “I don’t know what happens when people get corrupted. You just don’t know.”
