Following Shannen Doherty‘s passing at 53 years old on Saturday (July 13), Hollywood has opened up about the devastating loss.
The late Beverly Hills, 90210 alum, who starred on the famed FOX drama as Brenda Walsh, has received tributes from several of her co-stars, including Jason Priestley, who played her twin brother, Brandon Walsh.
“Shocked and saddened to hear about the passing of my friend Shannen,” the actor wrote on Instagram on Sunday (July 14). “She was a force of nature and I will miss her. Sending love and light to her family in this dark time.”
Fellow Beverly Hills, 90210 star Jennie Garth also honored Doherty, telling fans on Instagram, “I am still processing my tremendous grief over the loss of my long time friend Shannen, the woman I have often described as one of the strongest people I have ever known.”
“Our connection was real and honest. We were so often pitted against each other but none of that reflected the truth of our real relationship which was one built on mutual respect and admiration,” she continued. “She was courageous, passionate, determined and very loving and generous. I will miss her and will always honor her deeply in my heart and in my memories. My heart breaks for her family and Bowie and all the people who loved her. ????”
Tori Spelling shared a selfie with Doherty on her Instagram story, writing, “I don’t have outward words yet… but WE knew and that’s what matters.”
Another tribute arrived from Gabrielle Carteris (Andrea Zuckerman), who penned the following on Instagram: “So young – so sad. May you RIP Shannen. I know Luke [Perry] is there with open arms to love you.” Meanwhile, Brian Austin Green, who played David Silver, praised Doherty, in part, as “a big part of [his] understanding of love.”
Doherty also received love from her Charmed co-stars, including Alyssa Milano, who conceded that they had a “complicated relationship” in a statement shared with DECIDER.
“It’s no secret that Shannen and I had a complicated relationship, but at its core was someone I deeply respected and was in awe of,” she shared. “She was a talented actress, beloved by many and the world is less without her. My condolences to all who loved her.”
Rose McGowan, who took over for Doherty’s Prue Halliwell on the series by taking on the role of Charmed‘s Paige Matthews, shared a long Instagram tribute, in which she described Doherty as “a force of energy that will live forever in hearts.”
Brian Krause, who portrayed Leo Wyatt, wrote on Instagram that Doherty “showed [him] what strength is” and “taught [him] to be fearless and live with purpose.”
“To know your value and stick to your determinations,” he continued. “Forever loved! Truly heartbroken ????”
Other celebrities outside of the Beverly Hills, 90210 and Charmed casts have taken the time to mourn Doherty’s passing, including Kelly Ripa, who described the late actress as “a special person” and “one of one” on Monday’s episode of Live with Kelly and Mark.
