Hoda Kotb was left practically speechless during Tuesday’s (Oct. 15) broadcast of Today when Jenna Bush Hager confessed she’s been “begging” her son to let her dress up as his character’s girlfriend for Halloween.
“He’s gonna be a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle and I want to be his girlfriend,” Bush Hager told Kotb.
Kotb appeared shocked as she replied, “Okay,” after a beat of silence.
“I do! I want to be his Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle girlfriend in a green unitard because I also think that would look good,” Bush Hager continued.
Members from the Today crew behind the camera could be heard clapping for her as Bush Hager spoke. “Why are you encouraging her?” Kotb asked.
But Bush Hager did not react as she continued, “He is punishing me for I’m not sure what, and he’s saying, ‘No, daddy can be my girlfriend.'” She still plans on dressing up as his character’s girlfriend, however. “I’m going to order it and hope he lets me,” she told Kotb.
Halloween is just around the corner, which means it’s time for Kotb and Bush Hager to unveil the undoubtably over-the-top costumes they likely have planned. They teased during Tuesday’s broadcast that they already know what they’re going to be, but there’s no telling what they have planned this year.
Last year, the Today co-hosts dressed up as Sonny and Cher, complete with wigs and even a fake mustache for Bush Hager.
Still donning their costumes, they offered some sage advice to viewers ahead of Halloween. “If you go out for Halloween and you dress sexy, you are going to have a bad time,” Kotb warned. “If you dress up as a cow with udders, you will be dancing, sweaty dancing all night long.”
She continued, “If you’re trying hard with your cleavage out and your bunny tail on, trust me, the whole night you won’t be having fun. You’ll be cold and probably wont be having fun.”
Bush Hager said on the show it was the first time they’ve “dressed up as a couple” on the show.
Kotb replied, “I know, I kind of like it. I like being part of a couple.”
Hopefully they keep the trend going this year!
