Hoda Kotb shared a sweet, but hilarious, moment with Jenna Bush Hager during Monday’s (Feb. 5) broadcast of Today when she praised her co-host for her self confidence.

After discussing the 2024 Grammy Awards, which were held the night before, Kotb told Bush Hager that she felt like Miley Cyrus was her “spirit animal.”

“What?!” Bush Hager replied, in shock.

“Yes it is! Let me tell you why,” Kotb replied. “When Miley was chosen, when they announced her name, she locked into Mariah Carey and walked right up and she was so present… They were having their own moment. That is so you! And then she mentioned something about not having any underwear on and that is also you! She said that at the microphone while receiving her Grammy.”

Bush Hager’s reaction swiftly went from shock to embarrassment as she put her head in her hands.

“By the way, I didn’t say that, you said that!” she replied.

But Kotb continued praising her good friend and co-host.

“You know, what struck me, it’s people who are authentically themself. That’s you,” she said. “And when I was watching Miley, I kept thinking, it’s such a weird feeling, I said, ‘That’s Jenna.’ You’re one of these people who is unabashedly who you are, you’re going to dress the way you want, be the way you want, and be yourself.”

Bush Hager replied, “That is the best compliment! Miley, let’s be best friends!”

The pop singer and Hannah Montana alum received the first Grammy Awards of her career this weekend for her single “Flowers.”

Bush Hager has openly spoken about her habit of not wearing underwear on Today. Her own daughter once called her out for it on camera when she visited the show in 2022.

Her daughter Mila, who was then nine-years-old, told Kotb that her mom “never wears underwear,” before adding, “She’s not wearing it right now! I saw her change.”
