Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager shared a hilarious moment on Tuesday’s (Sept. 12) broadcast of Today With Hoda & Jenna when Kotb called her co-host out for “gaslighting” her.
The co-hosts were in good spirits as actor Matthew McConaughey was set to join them to discuss his new book, parenting and football.
“He and I have a lot in common – Texas, [University of Texas],” Bush Hager said, referring to their joint alma mater. She then asked Kotb, “Why are you against UT?”
“I’m not against it, I’m for it,” Kotb replied. But she explained that when it comes to the Texas Longhorns and Bush Hager, “It’s a lot.”
“But I don’t poopoo the [New Orleans] Saints, so let’s not poopoo the Texas Longhorns,” Bush Hager said, referring to Kotb’s former home in Louisiana.
“I didn’t poopoo [them],” Kotb responded while laughing. “Now, you’re gaslighting me.”
Later on, when the co-hosts were discussing McConaughey’s new book Just Because, Kotb used the opportunity to teach Bush Hager a lesson in gaslighting, yet again.
“It’s all about the nuance of life, that not everything has to look one way,” Bush Hager said, referring to McConaughey’s new book.
“It’s just like what you did to me,” Kotb cheekily pointed out. “Because you made it seem like it was an absolute. Of course I like the Texas Longhorns.”
Bush Hager cast the blame on her three children, admitting that they “gaslight” her “so much” back at home. “I’m afraid that it’s because my kids gaslight me so much that gaslighting has just become my natural language,” she admitted.
The daytime host always has hilarious anecdotes to share about her kids on Today, whether it’s them calling her “boring” or admitting they once had to sit her down to convince her to stop cleaning their rooms because she “threw away too much of their stuff.”
Today with Jenna and Hoda airs on weekdays at 10 a.m. ET on NBC.
