Not very neighborly.
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul was ribbed Friday morning for failing to name New Jersey in her announcement about the bizarre earthquake that rattled the area.
“A 4.8 magnitude earthquake hit west of Manhattan and has been felt throughout New York,” Hochul shared on X a few minutes after 10:30 a.m.
The rare, 4.8-magnitude earthquake actually struck near Lebanon in the Garden State less than 10 minutes earlier.
The tremors were felt in New York, including Manhattan but also as far north as New Paltz.
Eagle-eyed social media users were quick to call Hochul out for her apparent omission.
“It’s called New Jersey. It’s ok to say the name,” Hoop It Up CEO George Daniel quipped.
“It was Jersey. It’s okay you can pretend to care about people that don’t live in NYC,” former New York legislature Ben Geller replied.
Some commenters even tried to drum up a gubernatorial rivalry.
“@NJGov @GovMurphy can someone set her straight about what is west of Manhattan,” one person wrote.
“Can NJ impeach NY’s governor,” New Jersey Monitor editor Terrence T. McDonald shot off.
“New Jersey shakes, New York takes,” replied New Jersey Alliance for Immigration Justice Executive Director Amy Torres, a reference to the famous saying “Trenton make, the world takes.”
“Calling NJ ‘West of New York’ is fighting words,” another X user chimed in.
