Feathers got ruffled on a Florida TV news set when the staton’s meteorologist was startled in the middle of her broadcast by a pesky pigeon who suddenly swooped onto a screen behind her like a flying monster.
Chelsea Ambriz, of NBC6 South Florida, was preparing to give the upcoming forecast on Sunday when the bird flew straight at a camera showing a live shot of Hollywood Beach.
Because Ambriz was inside the studio with the beach superimposed behind her, she caught sight of the bird heading right at her — causing the veteran forcaster to squawk with fear.
“Whoa, my gosh,’ she yelled, quickly stepping back with her arms braced before laughing at the jump scare.
Ambriz was among the first to poke fun at herself, sharing the video on Twitter as she joked about the moment she thought the bird was really flying at her.
“Brain: bird is going to land on you! Reality: I’m in the studio and this is a live camera,” she wrote on Twitter.

As the video gained traction over the week, she went on to speak with NBC6 about the so-called “bird blooper.”
“I wasn’t expecting the bird to come, and from my vantage point, I thought it was going to land on my head,” she said. “My natural reaction was to duck.
“Then, in a nanosecond, you start thinking: ‘You’re on TV, you’re at work, keep going, keep going.’

“I definitely did not think it was going to explode like it has. The retweets and the interactions on Twitter have been fun to see, but yeah, it was just a blooper,” she added.
She added that it was not her first “close encounter” with pigeons, noting that she was once chased by the birds at the beach.
