Alec Baldwin‘s wife Hilaria Baldwin visited Today WIth Jenna & Friends to promote her new memoir Manual Not Included, in which the reality star and mom invites viewers into her life with the Emmy-winning actor. But Hilaria was forced to address the elephant in the room during her appearance when guest host Matt Rogers asked how her family has been faring since the tragic shooting that occurred on the set of Alec’s Western film Rust in 2021.

“I just wanna know how has that been for your family?” Rogers asked, prompting Hilaria to respond with a sigh.

“I mean, you can imagine not great,” she said, adding that she discusses the tragedy “a lot” in the book and on their new TLC reality show, The Baldwins.

The shooting occurred in October 2021, resulting in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injury of director Joel Souza. Baldwin maintained that he did not pull the trigger. After a lengthy investigation and trial, Alec’s involuntary manslaughter trial was dismissed in 2024, clearing him of jail time and making it so that the state cannot recharge him again.

“In life, sometimes bad things happen, and through our process of trying to make sense out of something that can never be made sense out of because it’s just awful, we leaned into other people and other people sharing their stories with us,” Hilaria said on Today.

She added that they coped with the tragedy by “staying together and putting one foot in front of the other.”

The Baldwins continued filming their TLC reality show amidst the ongoing trial, despite the looming possibility of jail time. According to sources with knowledge of the matter, the couple signed on to the do the show “while Alec was already dealing with his legal issues,” per the New York Post.

And the trial is a central focus on the show as they grapple with the aftermath while parenting their seven child, who range from ages two to 11.

“A son lost his mom in the most unthinkable tragedy,” Hilaria says in the trailer. “This is never something to forget, and we’re trying to parent through it.”

Today with Jenna & Friends airs on weekdays at 10/9c on NBC.
