Heroes, zeros and full blitz from Michigan’s 34-13 victory over Washington in the College Football Playoff championship game.

Donovan Edwards set the tone, producing touchdown runs of 41 and 46 yards that gave Michigan a 14-3 lead at the end of the first quarter. He finished with 106 of the Wolverines’ 303 rushing yards on six carries.

On a night when his best was needed, Michael Penix Jr. failed to come up big. He twice missed an open Rome Odunze for what would’ve been touchdowns in the first half and was uncharacteristically off target most of the night. Penix finished a disappointing 27-for-51 for 255 passing yards, with one touchdown and two interceptions. His 93.6 quarterback rating was by far his lowest of the season.

Michigan cornerback Will Johnson helped limit the Washington aerial attack, which averaged 350 yards entering the night, but had just 255 on Monday. Johnson also had an interception as part of a big night.

303 Rushing yards for Michigan. Washington only had 301 total yards.
