Heat forward Haywood Highsmith was in a car accident that left one man in critical condition, according to multiple reports.
The Miami forward, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, got into the wreck while driving home from Kaseya Center after the Heat’s win over the Magic on Tuesday night.
Fox Sports 640 South Florida host Andy Slater reported, citing a senior law enforcement source, that Highsmith hit into a man who was assisting another driver stuck in the middle of the road.
According to Slater, the man struck by Highsmith is now in critical condition and had a partial amputation of his leg.
The Miami Herald reported that Highsmith was not injured in the crash.
In the wake of the accident, the Heat ruled Highsmith out for Wednesday’s game against the Spurs.
“We have been made aware that Highsmith was involved in a car accident heading home from last night’s game. Highsmith is listed as out for tonight’s contest against the San Antonio Spurs due to Personal Reasons.
“Our hearts go out to those who were injured. We will have no further comment at this time.”
Highsmith played three minutes in Tuesday’s win and did not register any points.
The 27-year-old, now in his third season in Miami, has averaged 5.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 20.7 minutes per game this season.
