Bam Adebayo has heard the rumors.
Over the weekend, the Heat center-forward addressed the elephant hanging over the team’s offseason: if Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard will eventually be traded to Miami.
“I don’t know what’s about to happen. The biggest thing is it’s business,” Adebayo told the media. “Everybody wants it to make sense … obviously, the other side wants it to make sense too. I feel like it’s just a waiting game until they make an agreement, if or when it does happen.”
Adebayo, a two-time NBA All-Star who has been a focal point of two Finals-bound Miami teams, is said to be an important part of why Lillard finds the Heat so appealing.
The two bonded while playing for Team USA at the 2020 Olympics.
“I think it’s just demeanor. How (Lillard) walks, how he talks, how he presents himself, we have a lot of similar characteristics,” Adebayo said. “Dame isn’t the loudest person, I’m not the loudest person. We’re two down-to-earth people that gelled well in the Olympics.”
Since Lillard formally submitted a trade request on July 1, rumors have swirled around the Heat with Miami’s Tyler Herro reported to be at the center of possible packages.
The trade request from the 33-year-old star guard has received some pushback from the NBA, which objected to Lillard’s agent, Aaron Goodwin, telling teams his client is really only interested in playing for Miami.

“We have advised Goodwin and Lillard that any future comments, made privately to teams or publicly, suggesting Lillard will not fully perform the services called for under his player contract in the event of a trade will subject Lillard to discipline by the NBA,” the league reportedly wrote in a memo.
Both Lillard and the Heat enjoyed spectacular seasons – the guard averaged a career-high 32.2 points and Miami, led by Jimmy Butler, went on a surprising run to the NBA Finals as a No. 8 seed.
