Hawks fans made their feelings known loud and clear on Tuesday night over the thought of D’Angelo Russell potentially coming to Atlanta in a trade.
Spoiler alert, it wasn’t a warm welcome.
Russell has been linked to Atlanta in NBA trade rumors, as the Lakers reportedly have an interest in Hawks guard Dejounte Murray.
That idea clearly hasn’t gone over well with the Atlanta fans, who were merciless toward Russell, chanting “We don’t want you!” while he was shooting free throws in the first half of the Hawks’ 138-122 win over the Lakers at State Farm Arena.
The rude reception may have gotten to the Lakers’ point guard, who had just nine points in 27 minutes on the floor and shot 3-for-11 from the field and 1-for-5 beyond the arc.
And luckily for Hawks fans, it doesn’t seem that Atlanta is too keen on adding Russell before the Feb. 8 NBA trade deadline.
ESPN reported last week that the Hawks would rather see Russell sent to a third team in any potential deal that involves Murray.
The Athletic also reported that the Lakers had already tried to trade Russell to the Hawks in a deal for Murray, but Atlanta is more interested in shooting guard Austin Reaves coming back the other way.
Russell isn’t known for being the most consistent performer in the postseason, but he has had a very strong showing in 12 games during the month of January.
Going into Tuesday’s game against Atlanta, Russell averaged 23.8 points, 6.1 assists and 1.8 rebounds.
Hawks coach Quin Snyder refused to indulge in questions about the rumors surrounding Russell and Murray prior to the win over LA.

“I shouldn’t even have to answer that question,” Synder told reporters, according to the Los Angeles Times.
“I think I made it clear that I don’t comment on rumors and speculation. It’s not something I get involved with.”
