Harrison Bader’s return from injury didn’t last long.
Playing in just his second game this season since being reinstated off the injured list with a strained oblique, Bader exited in the ninth inning of the Yankees’ 4-3 win over the Guardians in The Bronx Wednesday night.
Playing center field, Bader was charging in on a bloop to shallow left-center field by Cleveland’s Oscar Gonzalez when he collided with Isaiah Kiner-Falefa, who was charging in from left field.
It appeared Kiner-Falefa caught Bader in the head with his cleat.
Neither was able to make the catch, and it allowed a run to score and the Guardians to take a 3-2 lead.
The Yankees tied the game at three in the bottom of the ninth, however, and sent the game to extra innings where they won on a walk-off single by Jose Trevino in the bottom of the 10th inning.
But prior to tying the game, the Yankees’ problems only got worse.
Oswald Peraza exited the game while stealing second base with an apparent leg injury.
He opted not to slide on a close play at the bag, instead lunging with his right leg and appearing to hyperextend it.
It was the second game in three days that struggling Yankees closer Clay Holmes was brought in the ninth inning to close out the game and failed to.
