Vice President Kamala Harris will kick off the final week before the election by making her so-called “closing argument” to the nation at a rally on Washington D.C.’s Ellipse Tuesday evening.
Harris, 60, will stand in front of the White House with a split screen when she presses voters to “turn the page” by outlining her agenda should she be elected to the nation’s highest office, a senior campaign official told ABC News.
Harris’ appearance in DC will kick off several days on the road, as Harris will visit battleground states alongside her campaign’s get-out-and-vote concert series, the outlet said.
The Harris-Walz camp got an initial boost of star power over the weekend, with an appearance from musician Maggie Rogers at their Ann Arbor rally.
About 20,000 people are expected to attend the Tuesday event, according to the permit approved by the National Park Service – up from the previous permit application that predicted a crowd of about 7,500 attendees, DC News Now said.
The site will open to the public at 3 p.m., and will close at 9 p.m.
In the days leading up to rally, Harris emphasized that the location of the rally on the National Mall – the same place where Republican opponent Donald Trump spoke before the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol attacks – was to remind voters of the decision at hand.
“I would and do think about that place more in the context of what will be behind me, which is the White House. And I’m doing it there, because I think it is very important for the American people to see and think about who will be occupying that space on Jan. 20,” Harris told CBS News’ Norah O’Donnell over the weekend.
“The reality of it is that most Americans can visualize the Oval Office. We’ve seen it on television, and this is a real scenario. It’s either going to be Donald Trump or it’s going to be me sitting behind the resolute desk in the Oval Office.”
Speaking to reporters in Philadelphia on Sunday, Harris accused Trump of being “full of grievances.”
“He is full of dark language that is about retribution and revenge, and so the American people have a choice. It is either going to be that, or it’ll be me there, focused on my to-do list, focused on the American people, and getting through that list of goals and plans to improve the lives of the American people,” she insisted.
Harris’ comments came after she was caught on the hot mic Saturday admitting Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer that her campaign needed to “move ground among men.”
“Oh, we have microphones in here listening to everything. I didn’t realize that,” Harris said as she then turned around.
A spokesperson for Trump – who drew a massive crowd for his historic Madison Square Garden rally Saturday – did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for a comment.
