An angry man armed with a loaded handgun was arrested after demanding to see Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers at the state Capitol — only to return hours later brandishing an assault rifle after posting bail, authorities said Thursday.

The 43-year-old man, who was shirtless and had a holstered handgun, showed up at the Democratic governor’s office inside the Capitol building in Madison on Wednesday afternoon, according to state cops.

The man, who hasn’t been named, allegedly declared he wouldn’t leave until he could talk to Evers about “domestic abuse towards men.”

The gun-toting man was subsequently nabbed by a Capitol police officer for illegally openly carrying a firearm into the building.

Weapons can be brought into the Capitol if they are concealed and the person has a valid permit, which the man in question didn’t have, state Department of Administration spokesperson Tatyana Warrick said.

The man was booked into the Dane County Jail but later posted bail.

Hours later, the man returned to the Capitol wielding a loaded assault-style rifle and a collapsible police baton in his backpack just before 9 p.m., Warrick said.

He again demanded to see Evers and was promptly taken into custody. The man was taken to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation, cops said.

Asked about the ordeal, Evers, who wasn’t at the Capitol at the time, told reporters Thursday: “Capitol Police took control of the situation and so it’s over.”

He wouldn’t comment on what if any, security changes could be made for him or the Capitol building.

“I never, ever talk about what my security detail does or what they’re planning on doing,” Evers said. “But anytime something like this happens, obviously they reevaluate.”
