Two former Mets will have new homes.
The Cleveland Guardians are trading shortstop Amed Rosario for starter Noah Syndergaard, The Post’s Joel Sherman confirmed.
Rosario, MLB.com’s No. 2 overall prospect at the time of his Mets debut in 2017, was originally sent to Cleveland in the blockbuster deal that landed the Mets Francisco Lindor and Carlos Carrasco.
He is hitting .265/.306/.369 with 40 RBIs in 94 games with Cleveland this season while accumulating a -0.1 wins above replacement, according to Fangraphs.
In 388 games with the Guardians, the 27-year-old hit .278 with a .711 OPS.
Rosario hit .268 with 32 homers in four seasons with the Amazin’s.
Syndergaard, a once-vaunted piece of the Mets’ rotation, has not replicated the success he once had in the Big Apple.
In 12 starts with the Dodgers this year, the right-hander saw his ERA balloon to 7.16 while striking out just 38 in 55 1/3 innings.
In June, he landed on the injured list with a lingering blister issue.
After a disastrous start in which he allowed five runs over five innings against the Washington Nationals at the end of May, the 30-year-old spoke bluntly about how he wished he could get his “old” stuff back.
“I would give my hypothetical first-born to be the old me again,” Syndergaard said. “I’ll do anything possible to get back to that. I’m expected to go out there and compete, and today I just fell behind a lot of hitters.”
Syndergaard played a pivotal role in the Mets’ 2015 run to the World Series, winning Game 3 of the Fall Classic against the Kansas City Royals.
An All-Star in 2016, Syndergaard then suffered a torso injury in 2017 that cost him most of that season before he underwent Tommy John surgery in 2020.
He split his 2022 season with the Los Angeles Angels and Philadelphia Phillies, helping the latter win the National League pennant.
Once known as a fireballer, Syndergaard’s fastball is averaging just 92 mph this year, and he even turned to hypnosis in May to turn this around.
