Veteran actor/comedian Martin Short has been cast in Season 2 of Fox’s animated comedy Grimsburg.
The Only Murders in the Building star will play newbie detective Otis Volcanowitz, who will recur in the series.
Short will appear opposite the show’s main star and executive producer Jon Hamm, who plays Det. Martin Flute. The news was announced on Sunday during Fox’s Grimsburg panel at the New York Comic-Con, according to Variety.
The character’s description reads as follows: “Otis is Grimsburg’s newest detective and also their youngest. Fortunately, there’s nothing the mean streets of this town can throw at him that’s scarier than what he’s seen in the third grade cubbies. Otis is out to prove that it was his skills as a kid detective that got him this job, not because he’s a nepo baby whose wealthy parents happen to be the Mayor’s biggest donors and the owners of the town’s wildly profitable active volcano dump.”
In addition to Hamm, Grimsburg stars Erinn Hayes as Flute’s ex-wife Harmony, Rachel Dratch as Flute’s unstable son Stan, Alan Tudyk as Stan’s imaginary friend Mr. Flesh, Greg Chun as Flute’s mentor Lieutenant John Kang and Kevin Michael Richardson as Flute’s human cyborg partner Det. Greg Summers.
Grimsburg debuted in January and has been renewed for a second season, which will premiere this midseason on Fox. All episodes will be available to stream the day after their Fox premiere on Hulu.
The show is produced by Fox Entertainment’s animation studio Bento Box Entertainment and is a Fox Entertainment property. Chadd Gindin serves as executive producer and showrunner. Hamm, Gail Berman, Hend Baghdady, and Connie Tavel are executive producers.
Series creators Catlan McClelland and Matthew Schlissel also serve as co-executive producers.
Short’s recent animated voice-over work includes The Willoughbys, The Addams Family, Big Mouth, The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That, The Magic School Bus Rides Again, The Simpsons, and BoJack Horseman.
