Grimes and Elon Musk’s daughter, Exa, has a new name.
The singer tweeted Thursday that the 1-year-old goes by “Y now, or ‘Why?’ or just ‘?'”
Grimes, whose real name is Claire Elise Boucher, admitted the “government won’t recognize” the symbol, which represents “curiosity, the eternal question, .. and such.”
The Canadian musician, 35, quietly welcomed her baby girl in December 2021 via surrogate and kept the little one under wraps until three months later.
“I don’t know what I was thinking,” she told Vanity Fair of trying to conceal her “colicky” baby’s existence after Exa began crying during the interview.
Grimes noted at the time that her daughter’s nickname was “Y.”
She and Musk, 51, had broken up by the time the cover story was published in March 2022.
The on-again, off-again couple, who first “semi-separated” in September 2021, also share a 2-year-old son.
His initial moniker did not follow California guidelines.
In order to comply with the law, Grimes and the Twitter CEO changed their baby boy’s name from X AE A-12 to X AE A-XII when he arrived in May 2020.
Grimes explained via Twitter at the time that the unique name’s first letter stood for “the unknown variable,” while AE was the “elven spelling of Ai (love &/or Artificial intelligence).”
She added, “A-12 = precursor to SR-17 (our favorite aircraft). No weapons, no defenses, just speed. Great in battle, but non-violent. A=Archangel, my favorite song).”
Musk clarified in an interview with Joe Rogan that same month that Grimes chose the name.
“First of all, my partner is the one who, mostly, actually came up with the name,” he said. “I mean it’s just X, the letter X. And then the AE is pronounced like ‘ash.’”
The Tesla co-founder is also the father of five children with ex-wife Justine Musk — twins Griffiin and Vivian, 19, and triplets Kai, Saxon and Damian, 17.
In November 2021, Musk welcomed another set of twins with his Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis.
