Outside of a Super Bowl, Green Bay will be hosting the NFL’s biggest event of the year in two years time.
The league announced Monday the 2025 NFL Draft will take place in Green Bay, Wisc., checking off an event that has been almost a decade in the making.
Packers president Mark Murphy met with the local government and tourism officials in 2016 to get the ball rolling on submitting a bid for the draft as early as 2019.
“This is an incredible day for the Packers, Greater Green Bay and the entire state of Wisconsin as we are excited and honored to be selected to host the 2025 NFL Draft,” Murphy said in the statement.
“The Packers have a rich and proud history that goes back to the early days of the NFL and are the only community owned team. That connection to our League’s heritage combined with the great passion Packers fans will bring will make the Draft a memorable event for those in attendance and NFL fans watching around the world.”
Green Bay holds a population of 107,395, and has not held a Super Bowl because of its small size and cold weather, and Murphy ran into concerns about the city’s infrastructure, such as hotels and convention space, to be capable of hosting the large-scale production.
Taking action, Murphy put in additional construction efforts around Lambeau Field and the Titletown District, adding hotels, restaurants and entertainment space, to more solidity the city’s chances.
The Packers announced the draft will take place “inside and around Lambeau Field and Titletown,” putting the newly built area to test.
Green Bay was one of three finalists to hold the 2024 draft, yet Detroit snatched it up last March.
The Packers’ most recent bid was for either 2025 or 2027.
Green Bay did not submit for 2026 due to a prior commitment in hosting a college football game between Wisconsin and Notre Dame, and the city only wishes to host one non-Packers related event per year.
“The Draft has become a prominent offseason event hosted in different cities with spectacular locations across the country, and we are excited to work with the Packers and Discover Green Bay to bring the 2025 NFL draft to Green Bay and iconic Lambeau field,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. “With the help of numerous local partners on the ground, our prospects and fans will be treated to an incredible week-long experience that shows off the city of Green Bay and the state of Wisconsin.”
The tradition of moving from city to city each year for the draft started in 2015 after New York was the long-time host site.

Kansas City hosted the 2023 draft, which the league reported saw more than 312,000 event-goers over the three day event.
