Bad as the evidence of Biden family sleaze is, the growing signs of Justice Department and FBI malfeasance in covering it up are far more disturbing.
In a bombshell letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray, Sen. Chuck Grassley alleges that top Justice and FBI officials repeatedly, over the course of years, moved to shut down investigations into the Biden family.
Grassley says more than 40 confidential sources provided “criminal information” related to Hunter Biden and others in the clan to the FBI — with those cases rapidly closed, largely because of bogus findings that it was all “foreign disinformation.”
Per the senator, the FBI’s Washington Field Office’s Foreign Corrupt Practices Act squad began investigating Mykola Zlochevsky, the owner of Ukrainian natural gas company Burisma Holdings in January 2016 — when Joe Biden was still vice president.
In 2017, a source referred to Hunter Biden being on the board of Burisma, which “the handling agent deemed at the time non-relevant information to the ongoing criminal financial case,” Grassley notes.
The office then closed the case in December 2019 — at the very time Hunter Biden’s Burisma’s ties were all over the news thanks to then-President Donald Trump’s impeachment over his infamous phone call asking Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to look into Joe Biden’s role in the firing of former Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin, who’d been investigating Burisma.
Meanwhile, the FBI’s Pittsburgh Field Office opened a “guardian” assessment of info Rudy Giuliani had provided on the Bidens, which came across the info the DC office had ignored on Hunter and Burisma. It had that source re-interviewed, producing in June 2020 the now-well-known claim that Zlochevsky had said he bribed Hunter and Joe $5 million apiece so Joe would get Shokin fired.
The Pittsburgh office recommended that the investigation continue; FBI HQ instead shut it down.
Crucially, FBI Supervisory Intelligence Analyst Brian Auten, per Grassley, engineered a finding “to improperly discredit” the bribe claim as merely “foreign disinformation.”
Grassley also cites whistleblower claims that FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Tim Thibault — the bureau’s “point man” on Hunter Biden business partner Tony Bobulinski — ordered that another 2020 probe into Hunter’s alleged “criminal financial and related activity” be closed after pressure from “an FBI HQ and FBI Baltimore element.”
All this, before the 2020 election.
On top of Grassley’s letter came news that Scott Brady, who as US Attorney oversaw that Pittsburgh FBI investigation, told the House Judiciary Committee that the FBI hindered his Hunter Biden probe and that Delaware US Attorney David Weiss (the guy in charge of the main Justice investigation of Hunter) even skipped his team’s final briefing on the bribery allegations.
Instead, Weiss sent Assistant US attorney Lesley Wolf, now repeatedly fingered by other whistleblowers as shutting down any lines of investigation that might threaten Joe Biden.
“I think there was reluctance on the part of the FBI to really do any tasking related to our assignment,” Brady testified.
He also said he’d never been alerted to info from Hunter’s laptop, which the FBI had had for months.
Again, all this happened in the Trump years, meaning top FBI and Justice officials were working to protect the Bidens on their own initiative — with Team Trump utterly oblivious.
We have utmost regard for Grassley and the House investigators who are finally exposing these outrages, and we hope Republicans nominate a 2024 candidate who’s actually competent to root out this rot — not just rant about it.
