The Issue: The House’s inability to elect a speaker, as Rep. Jim Jordan again failed to garner enough votes.
To the Republicans who voted against Rep. Jim Jordan: Shame on you (“Havoc in house,” Oct. 20).
You have made a mess. You brought down Rep. Kevin McCarthy to make sure he did not get to continue serving as speaker, and now you refuse to let Jordan, a great replacement, assume the role.
Those Republicans who are hell-bent on causing havoc in the party should know that when people go to the voting booth, they are going to get voted out for good.
McCarthy and Jordan were both up for this job, and the interference to deny both the position shows Republicans’ ignorance and lack of judgment. Stop the madness, and let’s get a speaker.

I simply cannot fathom why the Republicans cannot elect a speaker.
The Middle East is on fire. US college students are out en masse supporting baby-killers. Whatever their petty differences, the Republican reps need to get over it.

If it weren’t for the idiotic and mindless Rep. Matt Gaetz, McCarthy would still be speaker, and the government would be functioning as it is supposed to.
He was so upset by McCarthy’s bipartisan workings that he undercut the speaker and brought about the current chaos.
Well, the answer to all of this would be to reinstate McCarthy — or I fear that some Republicans might join the Democrats and vote for Rep. Hakeem Jeffries to become speaker.
If anything, that would cause major issues, and at that point, nothing would get done in Congress.
In the end, when all is said and done, Gaetz is the one who should be thrown out for causing this situation in the first place.

At this point, I don’t care which House Republican member becomes speaker.
There are major funding issues that need immediate attention, but can’t be voted on until a speaker is duly elected: These are a government spending bill and spending to support Ukraine’s fight against Russia and Israel’s fight against Hamas.
These issues are critical to America’s future. After this funding is approved, then Republicans can decide to vacate the newly elected speaker or stick with him or her.

I want to pass on my congratulations to the Republican members of the House.
They have done an absolutely outstanding job of portraying a herd of jackasses.
I did not think it was possible for a group of adults to look more childish and foolish than a group of 2-year-olds, but they have certainly succeeded.

The Democrats can manage a 100% party-line yes vote for everything that is wrong for our country, but the Republicans (with the majority in the House) can’t elect a speaker to help make America great again.
How stupid can they be? Pretty soon, even good people will hate America.

So Jordan couldn’t put together enough votes to secure the speakership.
Enough! It is time for the House to vote in Donald Trump as speaker.
We need leadership — adult, pro-American leadership, not only for the House, but for the whole country.

With America providing military assistance in two wars, the threat of terrorism at home increasing exponentially and the southern border remaining wide open, this country’s need for strong leadership has never been more critical.
This is why the inability of the Republicans to elect a House speaker, thus paralyzing the government, is more than just disappointing; it is infuriating.
The Republicans’ ineptitude has proven, much to the dismay of supporters, that the Democrats are not the only ones who cannot govern.
