Google just called out the Biden administration for censorship far worse than anything the Trump team stands accused of.
Alphabet chief counsel Daniel Donovan told the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday that Google is reinstating YouTube accounts yanked years ago for supposedly running afoul of the platform’s policies around COVID and “election integrity,” including those of FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino, Sebastian Gorka and Steve Bannon.
Crucially, it turns out many of those banned had never actually broken the rules: The company simply folded, silencing even perfectly true speech, because the Biden crew demanded it, and “created a political atmosphere that sought to influence the actions of platforms based on their concerns regarding misinformation.”
“Misinformation,” once again, simply meaning info (right, wrong or mixed) that the people in power didn’t approve of.
Thus, plenty of COVID takes labeled as “misinfo” turned out to be entirely credible, from the Wuhan lab-leak theory to specific concerns about a higher risk of some vaccine side-effects for young men.
Donovan calls the Bidenites’ anti-speech bullying “unacceptable and wrong” now, but his company still bent the knee at the time.
To be fair, the Twitter Files show how the social-media companies were getting pressured not just by the feds but by the media, as The Washington Post and other outlets regularly amplified bogus experts pushing false claims about Facebook, Twitter and so on failing to take down supposed fake accounts.
Whatever you think of Trump administration “jawboning” about the (actual!) misinformation pushed by Jimmy Kimmel, at least it’s out in the open; the Biden team’s pressure campaign worked mainly behind closed doors and was more institutionalized and larger-scale — with FBI agents and White House staff dedicated full-time to this censorship.
That’s far more insidious, and perilously removed from any public accountability.

Yes, Biden is gone and his censorship crew with him; Google has started to come clean while Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has apologized for enforcing adherence to the lefty “unicause” on issues from immigration to gender ideology and pledged to make Facebook a free-speech zone.
But this remains a huge scandal that actually predates Biden’s term: For example, no one has yet gotten to the bottom of the FBI’s advance behind-the-scenes smearing of Hunter Biden scandals as “Russian disinformation,” thereby priming social-media firms to suppress The Post’s “laptop” scoops just weeks before the 2020 election.
The last week has seen vast noise over Kimmel’s brief suspension, while Google’s admission went nearly unnoticed; don’t be deceived: The major threat to Americans’ First Amendment rights still comes from the left.
