It looks like Gina Carano could be coming back to the Star Wars universe.

Disney and Lucasfilm have reached an agreement in the ongoing discrimination lawsuit Carano filed against the Star Wars studio after she was fired from The Mandalorian in 2021. The details of the agreement are unclear, but it appears that Lucasfilm is leaving the door open for Carano to return to the franchise in some form.

“The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm are pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement with Gina Carano to resolve the issues in her pending lawsuit against the companies,” a Lucasfilm spokesperson said in a statement, per Entertainment Weekly

The statement continued, “Ms. Carano was always well respected by her directors, co-stars, and staff, and she worked hard to perfect her craft while treating her colleagues with kindness and respect. With this lawsuit concluded, we look forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future.”

Carano said on social media that she is “humbled and grateful” for this outcome. She also thanked Elon Musk for funding the lawsuit, as part of his vow to personally pay the legal expenses of any X user who claims to be facing discrimination for their activity on the platform, with “no limit” on costs.

“I have come to an agreement with Disney/Lucasfilm which I believe is the best outcome for all parties involved. I hope this brings some healing to the force,” she wrote.

“I want to extend my deepest most heartfelt gratitude to Elon Musk, a man I’ve never met, who did this Good Samaritan deed for me in funding my lawsuit. Thank you Mr. Musk and for backing my case and asking for nothing in return,” Carano continued.

The former MMA fighter said she is “excited to flip the page and move onto the next chapter” as she plans to continue acting. “My desires remain in the arts, which is where I hope you will join me,” she concluded. “Yes, I’m smiling.”

In 2021, Carano was let go from her talent agency and fired from The Mandalorian ahead of Season 3 after sharing a post that equated having right-wing views to being Jewish during the Holocaust. At the time, Lucasfilm said her social media posts were “abhorrent and unacceptable.”

The actress sued Lucasfilm and its parent company, Disney, for wrongful discharge, refusal to hire, and sex discrimination. She claimed the companies launched a “post-termination smear campaign” and “targeted, harassed, publicly humiliated, defamed, and went to great lengths to destroy Carano’s career” while her male co-stars were not disciplined for sharing their own political beliefs on social media.

At the time, Disney filed a motion to have the lawsuit dismissed, claiming it had the “constitutional right not to associate its artistic expression with Carano’s speech.”

Carano’s lawsuit demanded she be hired back onto The Mandalorian. She also sought compensatory damages of at least $75,000, punitive damages, and compensatory loss for missing out on future opportunities.

The terms of Carano’s agreement with Disney and Lucasfilm have not been disclosed.
