The San Francisco 49ers are rolling.

They’ve won 12 consecutive regular-season games, including eight by 13 or more points.

They should record another big victory on Thursday night. 

Situationally, it’s a great spot for San Francisco.

The Giants needed a miracle second-half comeback to beat the lowly Cardinals last week, and now they face the hottest team in football on a short week.

Saquon Barkley also exited with an injury during Week 2.

That would be a huge blow to the Giants’ offense if he can’t suit up, and I’m doubtful he sees the field. 

But the key handicap in this game is the Giants’ rush defense.

They boasted the worst rush defense in the NFL last season by DVOA, allowing a whopping 5.2 yards per carry. 

The Giants made some key offseason moves to try and mitigate that issue, including signing linebacker Bobby Okereke.

But the ceiling for this rush defense is still low, as the Giants are 24th in Rush Defense DVOA through two weeks, allowing over 100 rushing yards to the Cowboys and Cardinals. 

A bad rush defense is a death sentence against a Kyle Shanahan offense headlined by superstar back Christian McCaffrey.

The Niners are second in Rush Offense DVOA through two weeks, and McCaffrey already has over 250 yards and two scores on the ground.

For what it’s worth, TNF is usually a snoozefest.
