NextImg:Giants’ Tommy DeVito off to nightmare start after Daniel Jones injury

Tommy DeVito vowed that everything would be different if he had another chance to quarterback the Giants, but those changes didn’t materialize in the first half Sunday.

After DeVito was forced to enter the game following Daniel Jones’ apparent knee injury early in the second quarter, DeVito completed just one pass for 11 yards and threw two interceptions as the Giants trailed, 24-0 at the break.

So through two appearances in consecutive weeks for the Giants, DeVito had completed 3-of-10 passes for 10 yards, along with the two interceptions before the second half began.

The first interception occurred on a deep pass toward the end zone intended for Jalin Hyatt, as Amik Robertson snagged the ball and then returned it 40 yards to set up Josh Jacobs’ second rushing touchdown.

Then, on the next pass, DeVito’s throw bounced off the chest of Darius Slayton, into the air and then into the hands of Nate Hobbs.

That allowed the Raiders to get another field goal before halftime, only adding to the Giants’ fourth deficit of 20 or more points at halftime this season — which marks the most in the NFL, according to Fox.

DeVito, who started his collegiate career at Syracuse before transferring to Illinois, signed as an undrafted free agent and then earned a spot on the Giants’ practice squad out of training camp.

He needed to play in Week 8 against the Jets once Tyrod Taylor, starting in place of Jones while he recovered from a neck injury, exited with a rib injury.

Taylor’s addition to injured reserve Saturday meant DeVito would serve as the Giants’ backup Sunday.

Earlier this week, he told The Post’s Ryan Dunleavy that there’d be a “different situation” if he played again, since the Giants relied on Saquon Barkley (36 carries) and finished with minus-9 passing yards while completely abandoning that element of the offense.

“It really was part of the game plan, with the way that our defense was playing, the way the weather was, the score of the game,” DeVito said. “So many scenarios played into it more than saying we weren’t throwing the ball. Besides the last couple plays, we were winning that football game — and if we win, then nobody says anything about it.”

The Giants also signed veteran quarterback Matt Barkley this week, but he remained on the practice squad and wasn’t active against the Raiders.

Brian Daboll told Fox that Jones won’t return due to his injury, though he didn’t provide any additional information.
