Dodgers fans had a reason to be frustrated on Sunday, but Giants ace Logan Webb was having none of it.
After Los Angeles fans booed two Giants players for taking injury timeouts during San Francisco’s 7-3 victory over the Dodgers on Sunday, Webb didn’t mince words when discussing the fans’ behavior postgame.
“Yeah, I’m not too happy about that, to be honest,” the 26-year-old pitcher said.
Dodger Stadium fans showed no mercy to two Giants players, who had legitimate injury concerns during the game.
In the eighth inning, the Dodger faithful booed Giants infielder Casey Schmitt for taking too much time to exit the game after being hit by a pitch in the forearm.
The fans then turned their attention to San Francisco reliever Scott Alexander in the wake of another delay, in which he hurt his hamstring on a ground ball to first base in the ninth inning.
Despite the in-game theatrics from the home crowd, the Giants completed their three-game sweep over the Dodgers on Sunday — a first for the Giants at Dodger Stadium in over a decade.
The Dodgers, who have sputtered to a 12-18 stretch over their last 30 games, are in third place in the NL West, a spot they haven’t occupied this late into the season since 2018.
They were shellacked by the Giants on Saturday in a 15-0 beatdown — the Dodgers’ worst home loss in 125 years.
Los Angeles’ bullpen ERA of 5.08 is the worst in the National League and only leads Oakland’s dismal 5.58 ERA for the worst mark in baseball.
The Giants, who got off to a slow start in April, rebounded for a strong May and have compiled an impressive 11-4 record for June thus far.
Webb, who tossed seven innings of two-run ball on Sunday, helped power the Giants to their seventh consecutive win and second place in the NL West division.
If the Dodgers’ season continues to spiral, their fans will have a lot more to boo as the year progresses.
