The Giants may have to fill a third coordinator position after all.
The Seahawks requested an interview with offensive coordinator Mike Kafka as they opted to move on from Pete Carroll last week, according to a Giants source.
The Titans spoke with Kafka last week.
The 36-year-old was expected to be the lone holdover from the 2023 Giants staff after coach Brian Daboll fired special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey last Monday and endured a fiery split with defensive coordinator Wink Martindale.
Kafka was among the popular coaching candidates after the 2022 season in which he guided an effective Daniel Jones-led offense to the postseason.
He interviewed with the Panthers, Texans and Colts and was believed to be a finalist for the Carolina and Houston jobs, though he was back on the Giants’ sideline for a second year this past season.
Jones’ season-ending injury and a poor offensive line did not help Kafka’s case, and Daboll could opt to take over play-calling duties.
Martindale, who meanwhile, has emerged as a candidate for the Jaguars’ vacant defensive coordinator job, engaged in an ugly split with the Giants after Daboll fired two of his most trusted assistants — leading to Martindale saying “f–k you” to the coach in an end-of-season meeting.
The Giants have begun their interviews for Martindale’s replacement — Ravens secondary coach Dennard Wilson and Titans defensive coordinator Shane Bowen — and last week hired Carmen Bricillo from the Raiders as their new offensive line coach.

Losing Kafka could be an extra blow to a team that finished 6-11 after coming into the season with big expectations.
“I think that’s important for all of us,’’ Jones said last week about keeping Kafka with the Giants. “A lot of time goes into learning a system and learning the ins and outs and everyone getting on the same page.”
