Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker is meeting with the Giants on Wednesday for some due diligence on the injured standout, NFL Network reported.
Hooker, 25, comes into the 2023 NFL Draft with plenty of intrigue as he was a Heisman Trophy candidate last season before tearing his ACL in November.
Hooker’s recovery from that injury will likely force him to miss his entire rookie season.
Still, many project Hooker to be selected as a late first-round pick or high second-rounder.
The Giants own pick No. 25 in the upcoming NFL Draft, although it would seem unlikely that the Giants use their first-round pick on a quarterback after they just dished out a four-year $160 million contract to Daniel Jones.
However, the final year of Jones’ contract is not guaranteed, giving the Giants some reason to keep their options open for talented quarterbacks like Hooker.
The highest Hooker has been projected to go in the 2023 NFL Draft is No. 11 overall to the Tennessee Titans in NFL Network reporter Peter Schrager’s first NFL Mock Draft.
Hooker has similar traits to Jones as a dual-threat quarterback.
Hooker threw for 27 touchdowns, two interceptions and 3,135 yards last season while rushing for 430 yards for the Volunteers before the injury derailed a season that included a 52-49 upset of then top-ranked Alabama in October.
Had he avoided disaster, Hooker could have been in the conversation for the top pick in the draft.
