Observations from the Giants’ first training camp practice on Wednesday.
The best two catches of the day belonged to one on each side, both out of QB Drew Lock’s hand: TE Lawrence Cager made a streaking touchdown catch to the front corner.
But DE Boogie Basham intercepted a pass that was tipped in the air by DT Jordan Phillips.
QB Daniel Jones completed 8 of 13 passes in his first time doing 11-on-11 practice drills since he tore his ACL last Nov. 5.
The problem is most were of the 5-yard-or-less variety, either by design or because of a lack of separation before the pocket collapsed. He also airmailed a couple.
Defensive coordinator Shane Bowen is getting a feel for his personnel.

In addition to lining up former linebacker Isaiah Simmons as a slot cornerback, he rotated DT Elijah Chatman — an undrafted rookie — and LB Darrian Beavers through with the first-team defense.
Jermaine Eluemunor didn’t make it through his first practice as the starting right tackle, suffering a left-side injury, though later tweeted “I’m good.”
RT Evan Neal, who could bump a healthy Eluemunor back to left guard, is “not far off” from returning to practice, general manager Joe Schoen said.
