NextImg:Giants announcer has one word for Marlins’ Dane Myers after wild bat-breaking tantrum

Dane Myers’ has a hot bat, and seemingly a bit of a hot head.

The Marlins center fielder violently broke his bat over his leg after striking out in the fifth inning of Thursday’s 12-5 win over the Giants.

Myers’ reaction elicited some ‘Oohs’ and ‘Aahs’ from the Oracle Park crowd while his helmet-spiking outburst earned him a one-word reprimand from NBC Sports Bay Area’s Mike Krukow.

“Bush,” the announcer proclaimed.

When the broadcast returned for the bottom half of the inning, Krukow and play-by-play man Dave Flemming continued in on Myers’ bat-breaking show.

“This doesn’t feel good when you do this, but I’ll tell you what, that’s impressive,” Krukow added about breaking the bat over his knee. “He’s a young player. If he knew how much the opposing pitcher got out of that and how enjoyable it is, he would never do it again.”

“He should know,” Flemming added. “He was a former pitcher.”

Myers is no stranger to tantrums, as last year he fractured his ankle while in the midst of a meltdown in which he kicked the clubhouse door after an ejection.

“It’s tough (to control myself), but it’s something you gotta do as a pro,” he said at the time.

He might have some more work to do on the issue.

Still, Myers has enjoyed a breakout season in Miami, making several highlight-reel catches and hitting a career-high .300 in 160 at-bats with four home runs and eight stolen bases for the 34-45 Marlins.
